The Story of the
Renaissance Collection

David Yurman created the first Renaissance bracelet for his wife and creative partner, Sybil. He twisted 50 feet of wire by hand, finishing the ends with caps of tourmalines and emeralds.

This was the first David Yurman Cable bracelet, and Sybil wore it every day and everyone wanted one. In 1983, the burgeoning David Yurman brand introduced the design as Renaissance—a twist of silver strands with gemstones tips. The bracelets' form was inspired by Classical design and its colors from the pigments
of Renaissance paintings, but its spirit was thoroughly modern. An instant success, today it remains David Yurman’s signature.

The Renaissance began in the 14th century in Florence, Italy, marking
a transition between the middle ages and the beginning of the modern era.
Philosophers and artists including Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo rediscovered
Classical Greek and Roman art, music, architecture, politics, science and literature.
This rebirth of culture, aesthetics, and the architectural and decorative elements
of classical architecture were the inspiration for David Yurman’s original Renaissance
collection and its new interpretation, Novella.

For a collection whose name means rebirth, it’s only natural that David Yurman continuously reimagines Renaissance. Over time, new iterations and fresh color combinations emerge as a nod to fashion. In Novella, the collection’s basic elements of form and color are reinvented in petite, modern designs—slim band rings, supple chains and lyrical chandelier earrings—made to be collected and stacked.
