The Allure of Jasmine

The Allure
of Jasmine

Revered for thousands of years, jasmine has taken root
in our collective memory with its soulful scent and
graceful beauty. From the Persian word yasmin, meaning
gift from God, jasmine often appeared in religious
paintings of the Italian Renaissance, symbolizing divine
happiness. In Shakespearean times, it was known as “the
poet’s flower” because of its inspiring fragrance. Legend
has it that Cleopatra and Louis XVI used perfumes
scented with jasmine attar, an oil so precious that 40-60
pounds of flowers are required to produce one ounce.

Today, the flower is celebrated at David Yurman as an
unconventional symbol of love.

An Unforgettable Blossom

An Unforgettable Blossom

Scent has the power to trigger memories and forge a connection
between people. Jasmine’s rich, honey-like sweetness is so
entrenched in various cultures that it is classified as a “world scent.”
For David and Sybil Yurman’s son, Evan, the flower holds a special
place in his heart. Evan, and his wife, Ku-Ling, selected jasmine for
their wedding in 2008—its intertwining vines symbolized their
unique relationship.

Our Wedding Collection began when David designed the DY
Crossover ring for Sybil, celebrating 35 years of creative
collaboration. At David Yurman, every consideration that goes into
creating an engagement or wedding ring has meaning, such as the
intertwined Cable in the Lanai and Crossover collections that
symbolize the crossing over into each other’s lives. By being
thankful for these moments, life becomes art.

This season, at David Yurman, we’ve chosen jasmine as the symbol
for our Wedding Collections, appearing in our campaign images and
blossoming in several of our boutiques. For those wishing to view
David Yurman engagement rings and wedding bands at our stores,
we celebrate this special moment with a jasmine tea service.

Lush arrangements of jasmine grace the interiors of our Beverly
Hills and Soho boutiques and the windows of our Madison Avenue
townhouse in a breathtaking expression of natural beauty. We also
partnered with event designer Preston Bailey to create six-foot-tall
sculptures of our Cable-detailed Crossover ring from jasmine and
other greenery. Installed outside of our boutiques in Beverly Hills,
Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas, they welcomed the wedding
season with a celebration of jasmine’s romantic charm and the
enduring promise of love.
