The Gibeon Meteorite.

THE GIBEON METEORITE

The 4-billion-year-old Gibeon Meteorite, weighing
between 50 and 70 tons, burst into smaller
fragments high in the atmosphere and fell to Earth
sometime between 10,000 and 30,000 years ago.
Strewn over a wide swath of present-day Namibia
230 miles long, it is one of the largest meteorite
falls in the world. Its first recorded discovery was
in 1836, but the local Nama people had made tools
from it for generations. Like all iron meteorites,
Gibeon contains remnants of the core portions of
distant planets, but its exact origin in the universe
is unknown.

The Namibian government banned the export of
the meteorite in 2004. Therefore, David Yurman
only uses specimens acquired before that date.

A quote from Evan Yurman.

THERE IS A NATURAL ART TO THESE PIECES.
SOMETHING THAT I DIDN'T HAVE CONTROL OVER,
AND REALLY NOBODY HAD CONTROL OVER.

OTHERWORLDLY PATTERNS

The meteorite is composed of an iron-nickel
alloy that reveals a woven matrix pattern
when cut. Formed by interwoven bands of
kamacite and taenite that have cooled over
millions of years, this crystalline structure
cannot be found on our planet.

PRIMORDIAL MATERIALS, MODERN STYLE

Evan Yurman, David and Sybil’s son and the company’s Chief Creative Officer, chose
Gibeon meteorite for its unique markings and patterns—each specimen is beautifully
one-of-a-kind. Paired with sterling silver or 18-karat gold, the rings, amulets and bracelets
have an artisanal quality that is completely contemporary.

Wearing meteorite, some of the oldest material known to mankind, completes a universal
connection with time and space.
