The DY Origami Collection

When strength and form are interpreted through art, the result can be surprisingly fluid. It’s
a truth evident in David Yurman’s sculptural work as well as in the world of dance.
To celebrate the introduction of our new DY Origami collection, we partnered with New York
City–based ballerina Mimi Staker, whose choreography echoes the undulating metal that
seems as flexible and ephemeral as Japanese folded paper.

Inspired by Japan

The art and artistry of the Land of the Rising Sun have long influenced the Yurmans. Evan’s Waves
and Ojime collections reference the art of Hokusai and the carvings on the tsuba of samurai
swords. When Sybil was a child, her father would give her beautiful dolls and origami from Japan.

In creating the new DY Origami Collection, David and Sybil were inspired by the centuries-old
craft of folding paper to imbue metal with a sense of malleability, draping silver and gold into
comfortable, wearable sculpture. In a statement necklace and matching bracelet, each row of gold
Cable wire is meticulously positioned, so that the links lie flat against the skin even as you move or
bend. Through innovative engineering, a six-row ring allows the wearer to style the bands on
multiple fingers at once. With hand-set pavé diamonds and mixed metals, the collection is both
refined and bold.

Metal and paper. Indestructible and ephemeral. Power and delicacy. Opposites, but not
in the hands of David Yurman, or in the graceful expression of Mimi Staker.
