A New York
Holiday

This year, David Yurman invites you to step into the famed Carlyle hotel and discover
the magic of a New York holiday. Opened in 1930 on a luxurious stretch of Manhattan's
Madison Avenue, The Carlyle is an Upper East Side landmark. And nestled
within it is another classic NYC destination—Bemelmans Bar.

Named for Ludwig Bemelmans of Madeline book fame, who painted its
lighthearted murals, Bemelmans is a storied piano bar beloved by celebrities and
locals alike. It made the perfect backdrop for DY brand ambassadors Scarlett
Johansson and Henry Golding to showcase our holiday jewelry collections.

In the elegantly appointed piano bar that now bears his name, Ludwig Bemelmans
hand-painted these lighthearted murals of Central Park. Rather than be paid for his
art, it is rumored that Bemelmans exchanged his work for a year and a half of
accommodations at The Carlyle. Today, this timeless artwork is an homage to a
bygone era, and a reminder that our imaginations are just a brushstroke away.

This year, David Yurman partnered with award-winning British artist Clym Evernden to bring
the holidays to life. Using seven of our 11 featured holiday products, Clym created a series of his
signature ink-based illustrations. Similar in style and spirit to Bemelmans' murals,
each one of Clym’s illustrations celebrates the unique energy of New York, the inpiration
behind the products, and the enchantment of the holiday season.

Watch below as Clym discusses his artistic process, his relationship and history with The Carlyle,
and his admiration for the style and humor of Ludwig Bemelmans’ work.

“What’s really interesting to me in
working with David Yurman is how I can
transport the product into a whole artistic
world. That’s the exciting part.”
